Felling of an Araucaria tree in a tricky situation
We carried out the controlled felling of a large Norfolk araucaria (Araucaria heterophylla), situated in an inner courtyard and just a few centimetres from a house. Given its extreme proximity to the façade, the windows and the porch, the tree posed a high risk to the building’s structure, requiring a specialised and precise operation to ensure the property’s complete safety.
What was done
Planning and Risk Analysis: Detailed assessment of the surrounding area and installation of anchoring systems on the tree itself to establish safe descent routes.
Sectional Felling: The tree was cut progressively, from top to bottom, dividing the crown and trunk into manageable sections.
Application of RiggingTechniques: Each branch and section of the trunk was secured to high-strength ropes and pulleys before being cut. This allowed the weight of each piece to be supported in the air and its descent path to be controlled.
Safe and Controlled Lowering: Using mechanical friction systems on the ground, all sections were gently lowered to the ground, preventing any impact or projectiles from striking the house’s walls, roofs, and windows.
Site Cleanup: After the tree was felled, all branches and wood were processed, and the yard was thoroughly cleaned, leaving the site safe and clear.
